Oramics: heroines of sound

Together with ”Glissando” magazine we present a series of interviews with Polish women working with sound – artists who deal not only with music or sound art but also educational engineering and technology, collaborating with the biggest Polish festivals. The series is our way of coming up with an alternative to the deluge of “year summaries” and carving out a space for women and their voices in the discussion about the music scene and sound in general.

Oramics was created in 2017 as a platform to empower women, non-binary and queer people in the electronic music scene, then it evolved into an independent booking agency representing FOQL, Mala Herba, dogheadsurigeri, Avtomat, Monster and ISNT. We work mostly in Poland where we are from but our crew is based also in the Netherlands, Austria and France.

The vital part of our activity is to support other struggling communities and also music and artists from our region (eastern and central Europe) – they are underrepresented in general. Besides our online activity, we curate club nights and concerts, co-curate festivals and other events, showcasing the most interesting artists on the Polish scene. We curated stages at OSA Festival in Sopot and Sanatorium Dźwięku Festival in Sokołowsko, we also run club nights at Projekt LAB club in Poznań, Ziemia club in Gdańsk , we are also regular guests in club Szpitalna 1 in Cracow. Artists from our roster performed at festivals such as Unsound, Sacrum Profanum, Rhizom, Instytut, Audioriver and played in renowned venues across Europe such as Macao, Ankali or Cafe OTO.
